Join Sustainable Southbury's Home Brand Audit “Return to Sender” program!
Hope you are all collecting plastic for the Home Brand Audit! After you fill out and submit your data card to Ann Marie Hunter via email: annemarie.hunter28@gmail.com by September 30th, we have some additional steps you can take to help turn off the tap on plastic!
Participate in the global “Return to Sender” movement! After you finish collecting a week’s worth of plastic and sort the items by brand, group them together and ship them back to the corporation responsible for producing the plastic pollution.
We’ve provided letters for you to send these companies to tell them that while you like their product, you don’t want the plastic packaging and they need to take responsibility for the plastic pollution they’ve produced -- and they need to stop producing more of it. You can include these letters in your packages of plastic waste when you send them back to the companies or send the letters by themselves!
If enough of us demand change, companies will listen!
There are 3 versions of these letters attached – all you have to do is fill in the company’s name and address and sign it:
1. Letter to companies (to send with “Return to Sender” plastic pollution)
2. Letter to companies (to send alone)
3. Letter to grocery stores (to ask them to stop carrying products packaged in plastic)
A special thanks to Ann Marie Hunter for writing the letters!
Attached, you’ll also find a spreadsheet with the contact information and addresses for many of the parent companies and corporations that you will likely have plastic packaging from. A huge thank you to Kat and Carolyn Bonomo for putting this together for us!
Here is the link to access the Google Drive folder with the 3 letters and the spreadsheet:
You can also share images of your branded plastic waste on social media, tag the brands, and use the hashtags #IsThisYours and #BreakFreeFromPlastic2020 to call out companies that contribute to plastic pollution. Also tag us @sustainablesouthbury on Facebook and @sustainablesouthburyct on Instagram!
Contact Ann Marie Hunter or myself if you have any questions.
Please join us in holding plastic polluters accountable and demanding change!
